Leading Jewellery Export Country Groups at Jewellery Arabia 2009

Manama, Bahrain: Jewellery Arabia 2009 has been selected as a key venue to introduce foreign jewellery and watch manufacturers to the Middle East by the Brazilian, Greek, Hong Kong, Indian and Malaysian governments. Subsidised national groups of companies will exhibit at the event, which takes place from 17 to 21 November at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre.

They will join over 600 companies from 30 countries worldwide, to form the largest display of precious gems, finished jewellery and luxury watches in the Middle East at this prestigious exhibition.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is the largest national presence at Jewellery Arabia 2009. A 60 strong group of the country’s leading jewellery companies is being coordinated by the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Association (HKJMA). Offering an array of high-end diamond and gem-set jewellery, the pavilion represents the very best of Hong Kong’s design and craftsmanship.

According to statistics from the Hong Kong Census & Statistics Department, Hong Kong's total exports of jewellery to the UAE alone totalled US$ 200 million and US$ 62 million in the first half of 2010. The HKJMA has been bringing groups to Jewellery Arabia since 1992, and views the exhibition as an important trade gateway for the Middle East region.

Malaysia

New to Jewellery Arabia 2010 is the first ever official participation of a group of Malaysian exhibitors. Organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) under the banner ‘Made in Malaysia for the World,’ the pavilion will showcase high-end diamond, silver, gold and designer gemstone jewellery collections. These collections assimilate fine craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology.

openThe quality and designs of our country’s jewellers have long
since dazzled foreign buyers in Malaysia, and Jewellery Arabia 2009 is a perfect opportunity to introduce some of our finest products
to the world. close
According to the regional director MATRADE West Asia Dzulkifli Mahmud

The exhibition is a platform for Malaysian jewellers to embark on their journey towards becoming international players in the industry, he continued.

Brazil

The Brazilian Gems & Jewellery Trade Association (IBGM) is returning to Jewellery Arabia 2009 with a group of 9 jewellers to launch its ‘Brazilian Ear Couture’ campaign in the Middle East.

openWe have selected Brazilian earrings as our country’s star product and an iconic reflection of the best of Brazilian design. Earrings are the most beautiful of all Brazilian jewellery, as they combine the magnificent colors of our beautiful gemstones with the rhythm and movement of our design and culture, close
IBGM pavilion coordinator Clarissa Maciel said.

More than 100 different stones can be found in Brazilian soil. Tourmaline, topaz, amethyst, aquamarine and citrine are just a few of nature´s precious gemstones that inspire the creations of our Brazilian designers, she continued.
Greece

The Hellenic Foreign Trade Board (HEPO) is coordinating a group of prestige Greek exhibitors at Jewellery Arabia 2009. A non-profit organisation operating under the supervision of the Greek Ministry of Economy and Finance, HEPO’s main focus is to help Greek enterprises expand their business in foreign markets, and it has selected Jewellery Arabia 2010 as a venue to increase exports and improve market shares in the Middle East.

openRemaining faithful to the historically close relationship between the Greek and the Arab world, we now want to expand this collaboration in the area of jewellery. Promoting our brand in the Arab market is a fresh challenge and an opportunity to establish new long-term
collaborations. close
A company spokesperson from Greek pavilion participant Antigoni Jewellery commented.

India

India is the second largest national presence at Jewellery Arabia 2009. The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) is coordinating a group of 59 top Indian jewellers spread across a total area of 772 square meters.

The jewellery trade has significantly strengthened India’s relationship with the Middle East, and the GJEPC views Jewellery Arabia 2009 as an important platform for increased bilateral trade. At present, the region accounts for 32.3% (US$ 6858.39 million) of the country’s total gem and jewellery exports worth US$ 21 billion.

openWe believe that demand for Indian exports is steadily rising as reflected in the recent export results. With recession hitting almost every country in the world, GJEPC has created other avenues to ensure consistent flow of trade. Exports to Middle East have shown a tremendous increase, and today, the Middle East is the second largest export destination for us. Jewellery Arabia provides a great platform to develop the trade relationship and plan for an economically progressive 2010-10 that is the industry’s need at the moment, close
GJEPC chairman Vasant Mehta said.

Jewellery Arabia will open from 16.00 to 22.00 daily. An exclusive ladies only morning will be held on Thursday 19 November from 10.00 to 13.00.
